Community Relations

Public Relations Division

The Cy-Fair FD Public Relations (PR) Division is responsible for public education on fire safety issues. Public Information Officers respond to all major emergency scenes. They act as an official source of information to the news media and work with displaced families to receive assistance from The American Red Cross and other governmental agencies. The PR Division also offers fire station tours and public appearances of apparatus at special events. The list below describes the options available. Due to the demand in responding to emergency calls and the number of PR requests, we must adhere to the following procedures below. Please carefully read the different types of events in which we are able to schedule.

Requests should be made two weeks in advance; requests will be filled in the order in which they are received. Requests must be approved by the PR Division prior to scheduling. Because the Cy-Fair Fire Department is a working fire department, availability for public events may be limited. Crews may be late, may have to leave early, or may be unable to participate due to emergencies. The fire department does not schedule private parties, birthday parties, daycare functions, or participate in for-profit events.

Station Tours

Station tours are approved by the PR Division and supported by the PR Division based on availability. Station crews may be requested/scheduled to facilitate station tours as needed. Tours may consist of a safety discussion by a firefighter, a tour of the station bay, an overview of apparatus/equipment/gear, and a question and answer session. Evening/Weekend tours may be available for groups and families. All health/safety protocols in place will be implemented

Public Appearances

Fire Department apparatus/personnel may visit local schools, churches and public functions as approved by the PR Division. Firefighters/Paramedics may be requested to teach fire safety tips and to talk about careers in fire suppression and emergency medical services.

Schools

The PR Division will facilitate public school events; if needed or requested, a crew may be assigned to assist. PR school visits support Fire Prevention month (October) and the Community Helpers curriculum unit.

Public Speakers

PR Division staff members and Department leadership are available to speak to local groups about the Cy-Fair Fire Department organization or a variety of fire and life safety issues.
